Work

Nicole and I aren't the most consistent when it comes to blogging. I guess we figure our life isn't exciting enough to share with the rest of the world, at least it hasn't been lately. Having said that, we know that some are anxious to hear what is going on so with time hopefully we will improve.

Lately we haven't had much time to do anything fun as I have been gone a lot. Work and studying for the CPA require more time than I have. However, work is exciting and I am enjoying my job. For those of you that may wonder what I do I'll try to explain it as simply as I can.

Obviously when buying a house one use a realtor and a home inspector. In mergers and aquisitions the realtor would be the investment banks. They line buyers up with sellers and push the sale. The house inspector, what I do, inspects the investment for possible issues, problems. Sometimes this means going through the books and making sure everything was done correctly and sometimes it means reduing all the accounting for a company to determine its true standing and value. Anyway, that is the simplified version. It doesn't capture 100% of what I do but you get the idea.

Since we are working with public companies that are buying and selling we're not allowed to talk about the work we're doing outside of our project team. Each deal is given a name "Mac", "Green Monster", "Miramar", "Phoneix", etc... and it is the only name by which we refer to it. Our floors are accesible only to those in our group compared to the rest of the floors being accesible to the whole company (PwC has 25 floors, my group uses two of those). We aren't allowed to talk to colleagues, family or friends about what we are working on. The worry is that something will be leaked (some of you may know of all the trouble with insider trading in the last few years) and someone will make illegal gains on insider information. There are a bunch of crazy rules to follow. We actually had a of guy arrested a few years ago for insider trading.

One of the great things is I never know where I'm going or what I'll be doing the next week. On a Thursday a few weeks ago I started out the day being told I was going to Uruguay for a few weeks, then in the afternoon they switched me to Boston for three weeks and then again on Friday morning they switched me to Washington D.C. When I was flying home from D.C. the next Friday I got a call telling me I had to be in Atalanta on Monday. So I spent the last two weeks working there. Now I'm back in the city and should be here for the next two weeks at least. I'm sure to some that seems terrible but being that it is all new I'm enjoying it. It is a little bit of a rush never knowing what I'll be doing the next week. Though it isn't fun to leave Nicole so much and I know she doesn't love it. She is very supportive and excited for me every time even though I'm sure she is quietly dreading it.

Well I guess I've blogged long enough about my life and work. You probably are all bored and yawning.

New York City is a great place to live and we love it. It is such a rush to go to work in the morning with hustle and bustle. The weather right now is great fall weather, though perhaps a little too cold too soon.

True, you aren't the most prolific bloggers. But it sounds like you have some excellent excuses for your neglect. Hope your travels slow down. Tell the Soup Nazi hi for me.
